Documentaries making a difference
OPP has been involved in some fabulous cause-marketing documentary projects and we are always eager to hear about new opportunities. A Cause Marketing Documentary is a film funded by private or corporate institutional sponsors to tell an imporant and compelling story. A departure from the traditional "promotional video," these films stand on their own as editorial works while working to help raise awareness of causes and organizations that are making a difference.

OPP and LEEP team up for "Web of Water" documentary
Environmental educators have long understood that people seldom care about things they don't understand and only rarely encounter. Which is why documentary video can be such a powerful tool for communicating environmental lessons: It takes people to wild, remote places that most would never otherwise visit, combining sight and sound and storytelling into one extremely effective package.
All of which makes OPP's next cause-documentary project a natural fit. Organic Process cameras will tell the story of the Lowcountry Environmental Education Program's "Web of Water" kayak expedition from Greenville to Charleston, producing a high-definition documentary that will give students across the state an engaging way to learn about South Carolina's interconnected ecosystems and history.
Pre-production work on the documentary began in December 2007, with more details to come in early 2008.

Hearts of Stone, a group of surfer volunteers from the United States, had an idea: On their travels to Central America for waves, they should give back to the communities they visit.
The Pura Vida No Pro is held each year on the beaches of Costa Rica, allowing volunteers (including professional surfers) to introduce orphaned children to the magical sport of surfing. Now entering its sixth successful year in Costa Rica, the event has grown into a year-round effort in support of the Hospicio de Huerfanos de San Jose, the oldest orphanage in Costa Rica.
The impact of the volunteer effort and the event is real. In addition to the intangible value it has provided within the lives of the participants, it has led to the purchase of Casa de Suenos; a transitional home in San Jose that houses 12 boys between the ages of 12 and 17.
OPP is working with the event organizers and volunteers to produce a documentary on the program, with principal filming scheduled for November 2007 and a release date in 2008.
Charleston Kids With Cameras

Charleston Kids with Cameras is an on-going mentorship program formed to help inner-city boys and girls see both the world beyond their neighborhoods and the opportunities available to them.
Mentors with specific writing, photographic, and videographic skills teach the students the fundamentals of these art forms. CKwC meets two Sundays per month. One Sunday session is a photoshoot with the children, under the supervision of a mentor, taking pictures to carry out an assignment using digital still and video cameras. The other Sunday is a review session where the students' pictures are reviewed with the mentor to discuss the quality of the photos and ways to improve them.
Using the students participation, along with their parents or guardians, CKwC builds exhibits of their photos that are displayed at high-profile venues.
