NALGENE outdoor to sponsor 'PURA VIDA NO PRO' documentary

Sports bottle maker NALGENE signs on as OPP cause-marketing co-sponsor: Deal to help cover production expenses for 12-minute, High Definition, Costa Rican surf-benefit documentary

NALGENE Outdoor, a leading manufacturer of bottles and containers for outdoors enthusiasts, will help sponsor the next cause-marketing documentary from Organic Process Productions.

The 12-minute film, which OPP is producing in conjunction with Peninsula Media, documents a non-profit organization’s efforts to support a Costa Rican orphanage while training orphans for careers as surf guides. The group holds an annual benefit tournament, the Pura Vida No Pro, each November.

Mitchell Davis of OPP said the sponsorship deal will cover much of its Charleston-based documentary crew’s production costs. The crew will travel to Costa Rica for several days in November to shoot the event and interview the participants. The film will be released in 2008. NALGENE’s involvement also includes sponsorship of a photo journal book on the event, the volunteers, the orphans of San Juan’s Casa de Suenos orphanage and the history of Costa Rican surf tourism.

OPP is a pioneer in the field of cause-marketing films, a concept that leverages the expanding demand for high-quality video into connections between worthy non-profit causes and socially conscious businesses. Unlike a standard promotional video, a cause-marketing film is an independent documentary that tells a worthwhile story. Documentary sponsors profit from having their brand associated with the project, while the cause receives much-needed public attention. In this case, NALEGENE also will be using its involvement to promote its “Refill, not landfill” campaign.

“We hope to use this as a model for creating a cause-marketing documentary network that is win-win-win,” Davis said.
