WHEN:
Founded in 2005, the company received a boost in 2007 when Davis left his business-development position with Amazon.com to devote more of his time to OPP.

WHY:
OPP represents an effort to create compelling and sustainable art and media projects that participate in the cooperative development of 21st century culture.

SO WHAT’S A “FOR-PROFIT SOCIAL VENTURE?”
Just as technology has changed our expectations about media, so too do these changes invite creative approaches to how we organize, fund, distribute and participate in creative endeavors. OPP represents a new approach to business that blends sustainability, social responsibility and traditional entrepreneurship. A for-profit social venture combines the practicality and adaptability of a traditional company with the focus and principled dedication of a well-run nonprofit. A portion of all OPP profits go back to what Hoffmire calls “the communities in which we explore.”
