Kulture Klash 3

Kulture Klash 3 was everything I heard it would be and then some. It was great for me to experience it first hand and see my art hanging among other artist's work. Art was bursting at the seams. I was also very nervous about signing up to paint live at the show and approached it very cautiously. After a glass of wine and a beer, I began to paint and all was going well until i got heckled by some skeptics in the crowd. A seemingly conservative elderly woman and middle-aged man appeared to be confused by what it was i was doing. The pair had a proud sarcasm as they shouted things like "Are you an artist?" and "Look at her paint those corn cornels!" I turned around and looked at them and laughed and said "I can't do this! I'm a painter, not a performer!" Ah, the freedom of recognizing who I was in front of complete strangers who could care less was very liberating. I put down my brush and tried to make conversation with them but they were eager to move on to some art they could hopefully recognize. Fortunately, for the interest of the remaining audience, my friend, Vikki turned it around and got the them to participate by painting in the cornels on the corn cobbs in my painting. The next day when I came to pick up my stuff, the corn cornels were all painted in. My first masterpiece!
What was most exciting though, was to see OPP artist, Ben Timpson really take the show. We are so excited but not at all suprised that Charleston art lovers are captivated by Ben's work. He showed his orginals for the first time and people were crowded and engrossed around his light table all night. Welcome to Charlesto, Ben!
